The 13-Year Curse of Ymir

No Titan Shifter can survive more than 13 years after first inheriting their power - a rule that traces back to Ymir Fritz herself, and one that governs every major decision made by every Shifter in the series.

Countdown Start

The 13-year clock begins the instant a person first acquires any Titan power.

No Reset

Inheriting additional Titans - as Eren did with Attack, Founding, and War Hammer - never resets the clock.

Universal Application

All Nine Titans are equally bound - royal bloodline or not, no Shifter is exempt.

Physical Deterioration

As the limit nears, Shifters experience visible, progressive physical decline.

No Exceptions

In recorded history, not a single Shifter has ever survived past the 13-year mark.
